Product details
Atlantis OD provides post-emergence control of a wide range of grass weeds and broad-leaved weeds in winter wheat crops including black-grass, wild oats rye-grass, chickweed and mayweed. The oil dispersion (OD) formulation maximises the activity of mesosulfuron and iodosulfuron providing good control even when weeds have metabolic resistance.
Atlantis is for post-emergence weed control and can be applied in autumn or spring, apply between the 2-leaf stage of the crop up to flag leaf ligule just visible (GS12–39). As a foliar acting herbicide, Atlantis OD is more effective when the weed is actively growing so be particularly careful if applying during the winter months. Generally, the herbicide is more effective if the target plant is at early growth stages so aim to apply Atlantis OD as soon as possible within the season.
As a foliar acting herbicide, it is important that the spray lands, settles then dries on the target leaf so the active ingredients are taken in by the plant. Coarse sprays or poor drying conditions are likely to significantly reduce activity. Apply Atlantis OD to a dry or drying leaf with 2–4 hours drying time before dew starts to form.
Apply the full label rate of 1.2 L/ha + 1 L/ha biopower with water volumes of 100-300 L/ha depending on the size of the canopy. In more open crops at early growth stages – typically autumn – you may use lower volumes but as the crops thicken in spring, higher volumes are needed to ensure full penetration and coverage of the target leaves. Sprays must be Fine to Medium (BCPC category) to ensure good coverage of the leaf.
Both products have the same active ingredients – mesosulfuron and iodosulfuron – and deliver them in the same quantity of AI at the full label rate (12 g mesosulfuron + 2.4g iodosulfuron). The difference is the formulation, in trials, the oil dispersion (OD) formulation has been shown to have an appreciable advantage over water dispersible granules (WG) for controlling black-grass. Although the benefit from the OD formulation is relatively small, every per cent counts when controlling black-grass.
Use no more than two additional products in a mix with Atlantis OD – full details are available on the tank mix sheet. For autumn applications, include a residual partner such as 0.3 L/ha Liberator so that the crop is protected against late germinating weeds.
Monolith offers superior and more consistent control of black-grass than Atlantis, particularly when it has some degree of metabolic resistance. In general, Monolith is a better product for controlling all grass weeds while, Atlantis OD gives better control of broad-leaved weeds.
