Choose crop protection with more
Bayer understands what it takes to grow top-quality marketable produce. That’s why we give you and your advisor a complete package with more substance. Let’s work together to make it happen.
We offer more
Investment: over $700 million in R&D during 2017 – equal to 30% of the world’s five leading global agrochemical companies’ spend (Phillips McDougal R&D Trends)
Commitment: globally, horticulture (fruit and vegetables) is Bayer’s biggest crop sector
Collaboration: we work with leading industry bodies to support growers of all crops, and share data with advisors
Flexibility: products, programmes, PHIs and tailored doses to suit seasonal variations
Satisfaction: of course we’d say that, but would be delighted to discuss the experiences of happy users
You and your advisor make a great team. At Bayer, we’re right behind you.
We don’t simply provide complementary crop protection products, but people with a fruit pedigree and dedication to horticulture. Technical, marketing and regulatory specialists – you can draw on their knowledge and expertise, directly.
Going wider, you gain from the experience of our team and growers across Europe, particularly Benelux. The benefit goes both ways: through a well-formulated structure, we learn from each other and contribute to new-product development wherever it’s needed.
Come to demos and trials
You’re welcome to join us at the many fruit trials and demos we run across the UK, as well as conferences in conjunction with AHDB and NIAB.
Meet our people
We’re here to help you. Find out who’s who.
Take advantage of carefully formulated products that tackle diseases and pests through the growing season and work together in helpful integrated programmes.
We know how complicated fruit-growing can be, so we make our products as flexible as possible.
This includes:
Ensuring appropriate PHIs – vital for your soft-fruit customers – especially when using fungicides in ever-bearer strawberries
Incorporating biologicals to aid resistance management
Building strong beneficial and pollinator profiles to support your IPM strategy
Improving shelf-life through control of storage rots
Where relevant, providing tailored dose rates to suit the crop canopy

There are many types of ‘biologicals’ – fungicides, insecticides and pesticides. At Bayer, we define them as crop protection or crop efficiency products where the active principle is a micro-organism, beneficial insect or compound of natural origin.
Bayer’s focus
Our biological crop protection solutions occur naturally. They are based on fungi, bacteria, plant extracts or minerals that are well characterised and originally isolated from the environment.Current Bayer biological products are FLiPPER, Sonata, Serenade ASO and Contans WG.
Why biologicals
It’s becoming harder to improve yields.
Today, around 40% of global production is lost to weeds, insects and plant diseases.
Climate change, and particularly adverse weather, is a challenge to yields, while water scarcity and limited arable land threaten to reduce food supply and security.
In parallel, growers have a shrinking ‘pipeline’ of new crop protection products to draw on, due to increasingly stringent legislation and extended development cycles.
What biologicals can do
Biologicals are unlike conventional plant protection products – and that’s the whole point. They’re designed to work together by targeting pathogens or insects through different modes of action.
For growers, biologicals support sustainable agriculture practices and food production systems with excellent integrated pest management and environmental profiles. In addition, they can provide extended protection for fruit, vegetables and – in some cases – arable crops.
Help manage resistance
With entirely different modes of action from conventional chemicals, biologicals offer new strategies for resistance management.
Increase overall crop protection efficacy
By using biologicals in cropping programmes with conventional chemistries, and by taking advantage of multi-site and single-site modes of action, it’s possible to enhance disease population management and resistance management.
Expand your options
As well as resistance management, biologicals can help with sustainable cropping, IPM compatibility, disease and pest control, plant health and yield – and even more:
Application timings can be more flexible, easing workload. There are short re-entry or pre-harvest intervals, sometimes none at all
Biocontrol agents are safe and effective for operators, beneficials and consumers
If you need to reduce chemical use while achieving higher marketable yields, biologicals may be the answer
Provide reassurance
With biologicals, you’ll more easily satisfy the ever-lower residue requirements of regulators and purchasers across the food chain, including those who have implemented stringent quality and stewardship targets. When used with traditional crop protection products, biologicals can reduce residues at harvest.
You’ll also satisfy consumers who focus on quality nutrition, sources of healthy vitamins and general well-being and increasingly demand safe, sustainable production of fruit and vegetables.
Bayer and biologicals
With more than 20 years’ experience in biologicals, we recognise that growers can no longer think in terms of individual crop protection products, but sustainable, integrated solutions.
You have tried-and-tested pest and disease programmes for different crops during the season.
We’re committed to helping growers deliver sustainably high yields of quality produce while helping avoid resistance and minimising residues. Which is why we have developed programmes based on trials data and experience.
Strawberry disease control is an excellent example, where we’ve brought together conventional chemistry (Teldor), a novel active substance (Luna Sensation) and biocontrol (Serenade ASO) into an integrated IPM programme. Here's a recommendation for ever-bearers:

We’d be pleased to discuss these programmes with you.
Bayer works closely with the AHDB to support EAMUs (Extensions of Authorisation for Minor Use) for a wide range of fruit, vegetable and herb crops. In this way, more UK growers can benefit.
