Importance

Annual loose tuft-forming grass which prefers light soils in warmer locations. The growing of game cover crops may increase the occurrence of this species.

Leaf blade

Hairless, 3-30 cm in length and 4-10 mm wide. The youngest leaf rolled, leaf sheaths nearly hairless.

Description

Plants 16-60 cm in height, nodes often reddish. Stems are smooth with a hollow centre. The spikelets are single-blossomed bearing rough bristles.

Ligule

Transformed into a crown of hairs 3 mm in length.
